" The Employment Security Department said it surveyed more the 15,000 businesses, which indicated there were 81,532 unfilled jobs; up nearly 11,000 compared with a year earlier. It was the highest number of vacancies in the survey's four-year history, officials said. There are 4,802 vacancies for registered nurses, followed by 2,526 openings for cashiers.......King County accounted for 52 percent of the unfilled jobs"

Mount St. Helens Climbing Resumes
Climbing resumes July 21: Mount St. Helens climbing permits will be sold online starting July 13 by the nonprofit Mount St. Helens Institute: mshinstitute.org/contact_us. A one-day permit costs $15 plus a service charge of $7.

Seattle Breaks ground on the South Lake Union Streetcar
"The $51 million project symbolizes, and could promote, the transformation of a sleepy old business district into a cluster of high-rise condos and biotech labs. The South Lake Union area is projected to gain 20,000 jobs and 17,000 residents by the year 2020.
The city predicts that when the line opens in fall 2007, about 300,000 people a year will ride the 1.3-mile route between the Westin Hotel and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Trains would arrive 15 minutes apart."

Seattle, Redmond and Bellevue discuss transit options.
Bus rapid transit: The system would have a dedicated lane, would average 24,500 Redmond-to-Seattle riders on a weekday and would cost up to $3.4 billion — but converting to light rail would add up to $960 million.
Light rail: The system would run on tracks, would average 35,000 Redmond-to-Seattle riders on a weekday and would cost up to $3.9 billion.

"In King County, there were 8,011 total active listings last month, compared with 6,857 in June 2005, an increase of nearly 17 percent.
During the same time period, active listings in Pierce County increased 46 percent to 5,503, while active listings in Kitsap County jumped more than 50 percent to 1,884.
Total inventory in the 16 Western Washington counties surveyed by NWMLS was 27,488 active listings in June, up more than 25 percent from 21,871 in June 2005."
