Seattle ’s Drinking Water Among the Nation’s Finest



Seattle continues to enjoy some of the best drinking water in the nation and is prepared to meet water supply challenges posed by global warming, according to Seattle Public Utilities’ (SPU) annual drinking water quality report.

The federally mandated report, “Drinking Water Quality: A Report to the Community,” concludes that in 2006 Seattle’s water was among the best in any major city in North America. SPU regularly tests the water for 177 compounds, including metals, chemical contaminants and disease-causing organisms. All monitored compounds were below limits set by the Environmental Protection Agency.
