Does anyone own a shop downtown or work downtown in retail and experienced this for themselves(More tourists and increased sales)?

I know that my friend was trying to get a hotel room at the last minute last week and everything was booked up completely in the Seattle area - for no reason other then the clerk stating "well, its summertime in Seattle"
