Tacoma to go Futuristic Post Apocalyptic!!!

From the Tacoma News Tribune
Apparently the Tacoma City council is likely to pass an ordinance that would create Zones which certain individuals wouldnt be allowed to enter (like Prostitutes, Drug Dealers, etc. etc)

I find this highly disturbing and reminds me of the tv show Dark Angel where you needed specific clearance and permits to enter certain areas. Alot of the late 80's early 90's Sci Fi Futuristic Post Apocalyptic movies usually had this kind of a theme.

Affected areas include
• Downtown and the Hilltop.

• South Tacoma Way from Sprague Avenue to South 80th Street and several blocks on either side of that thoroughfare.

• An area along Hosmer Street from South 72nd Street to South 96th Street. This area encompasses several blocks on either side of Hosmer.

• The Pacific Avenue strip from South 38th Street to the southern city limits just past South 96th Street. This includes a few blocks on either side of Pacific.

I guess my biggest concern is that it could lead to discrimination and other crazy zone ordinances. Perphaps a zone where to enter you have to make over a certain amount, or be religous, etc etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

shouldn't the entire city be prostitution and drug dealer free?

It's an interesting phenomenon. They already passed the alcohol sales restrictions in such areas and in Seattle also. This doesn't specifically effect me, but it does seem to discriminate also. Someone's past offenses should not restrict their access to anywhere. I know it seems extreme, but as far as I'm concerned, once you've done your time, you're done.

I'm glad that I got out of there when the getting was good...but the getting is always good when it comes to Tacoma.
